Simply 8700K, it is a beast but I think apart from the upgraded generation, you have to use a Z370 motherboard to use 8th gen, otherwise it won't start. On the other hand you can use 7th gen processors on normal motherboard.

Playing games based on CPU is just plain stupid. Your GPU matters not CPU. Whether you have single threaded 2 cores or hyperthreaded 32 core doesnt matter. You GPU does so if you are looking for buying new hardware I recommend get a new GPU because the i7 8700K is more than powerful enough to support the RTX 3090.
